From Louisville, 95 miles south on I-65 to Cave City, 10 miles south on KY 90 to Glasgow, 5 miles south on US 31 to KY 252, 9 miles south to dam. Barren River Lake was created by an earth and rock fill dam built across the Barren River by the Louisville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A full range of development includes facilities for land and water-based recreation, camping, fishing, boating, hunting, picnicking, swimming, and scenic beauty. The Lake project was constructed for the purpose of reducing flood damage on the Barren River. Barren River Lake covers 10,000 acres at summer pool and 20,150 acres at the maximum flood control pool. The Corps manages 20,108 acres for wildlife, fisheries and recreation at Barren River Lake and is situated in Allen and Barren counties in south- central Kentucky. Barren River Lake has an abundance of largemouth, white, and hybrid striped bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and rough fish. The lake's marina has 100 open slips, 40 covered slips, a launching ramp, rental fishing boats, and rental pontoons. A swimming pool near the lodge is for the exclusive use of lodge and cottage guests. A public beach, with a bathhouse complex, is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day. The resort has four miles of woodland trails for nature study. The entire family will enjoy guided trail rides that depart every hour, seasonally. A lighted basketball court, two lighted tennis courts, shuffleboard, and volleyball courts, with rental sports equipment, are popular, and the park also hosts daily summer activities and year-round special events, with a trained recreation director. An 18-hole, regulation golf course with a fully equipped pro shop, riding carts, and rental clubs, rounds out this park's many activity options.
