Laurel River Lake is located within the Daniel Boone National Forest on the London Ranger District. The 5,600 acres of deep, clear water and 192 miles of cliff-lined shore make it one of the most scenic lakes in Kentucky. This is a US Fee Area and requires a permit at the following boat ramps: Flatwoods, Grove, Holly Bay, Marsh Branch, Laurel Bridge. The hang tag permit costs 1 day for $3; 3 day for $5; Annual for $30. There are eight boat launching ramps on Laurel River Lake. The ramp at Holly Bay Campground is for the use of registered campers only. Two full service marinas operate on Laurel River Lake. They are located near Grove and Holly Bay campgrounds. All marinas are operated by private interest, under special use permits issued by the Forest Service. Laurel River Lake is a popular recreation area and receives heavy use on weekends during the summer months. Those who prefer seclusion should consider visiting the lake during the week or at other times of the year. There are many campgrounds to choose from. Laurel River Lake contains unseen drop-offs. Watch children and nonswimmers carefully. Changing water levels make diving from rock ledges extremely dangerous! The lake provides excellent fishing for black bass (largemouth, smallmouth, and Kentucky), rainbow trout, walleye, bluegill, and catfish. Night fishing for trout is popular during the summer. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the county clerkâs office, marinas, and many local stores.
